Out of Town Weight Loss Surgery

Information for Our Patients Traveling Long Distances

Northwest Weight Loss Surgery has been a regional provider for weight loss surgery at our Center of Excellence for the past 15 years. We have successfully provided many patients from Canada as well as Washington’s rural communities, neighboring states of Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska with weight loss surgeries.

Planning Your First Visit

Much of the preliminary paperwork for your treatment, including determining if you have an insurance benefit can be completed by telephone, fax and email before you arrive for your visit. Typically Bariatric Surgery will require two, sometimes three trips. You will be provided a surgery date after completing your insurance criteria or at the time of your first visit is you are self-pay.

Your first office visit typically consists of three appointments:

  • Consultation with your Surgeon.
  • Consultation with one of our Registered Dieticians.
  • Consultation with one of our exercise physiologist.
  • Psychological evaluation with the psychologist. (You may elect to see your own therapist for this evaluation)

If your Surgeon determines that you need to have medical testing done such as / but not limited to Lab work, sleep study cardiac clearance, upper endoscopy, etc., you can have the option of completing these in your local area.

Post-Op Care

Your recovery time after bariatric surgery will depend on the type of surgery you have. Traveling patients should expect to stay in the area for a couple days.

We can often do your one week post-operative check over the telephone.

Follow up visits

Follow-up after surgery can be easily coordinated by phone or email with inclusion of your primary-care physician. We will work with you and your physician to complete necessary labs and long-term follow-up that is both convenient and effective.

We are here to support you, even when you live far away. You may be scheduled for monthly phone appointments with your Surgeon or the Physician Assistant. We also offer video conference appointments with the registered dieticians.

Support Groups

It helps to know you're not alone. We encourage you to gain support not only from our bariatric experts, but also from others going through similar experiences. We will invite you to join our exclusive Facebook support group where you can enjoy live streaming of our monthly support group, connect with other people that selected to have surgery at Northwest Weight Loss Surgery, find recipes, share struggles and success and more.

Real Patients, Real Results

The doctors are great. I had some complications as a result of my pre-op testing and my doctor was very concerned and very available to me whenever I had a question. I e-mailed him directly, and he answered me back quickly.
